Public Enterprises Minister Alec Irwin believes that Eskom's finances could be seriously impaired if it was not granted additional tariff hikes this year. Irwin believes that it would be better for consumers to feel the pain now rather than wait for 2009 , in addition he says that not granting the increase will negatively impact Eskom's ability to raise capital and potentially damage the 2010 World Cup.
Irwin maintains that a shortage of electricity would not force the South African economy into recession, if the matter were not so serious it would be a joke, Irwin obviously has not taken notice of the decline of the rand since January or the fact that major resource companies are considering retrenching workers or the fact that South Africa will not attract any significant foreign investment until the power crisis is resolved - expected to be about 2014.
Irwin needs to ask Eskom to load-shed a coupla-thousand megawatts through his stupid-ass.
and if eishkom thinks i’m paying 53 per-cent more because they forgot that the demand is increasing…i’m i’m…shit, can’t go anywhere. but i’ll do something
