Save Electricity Facts
saving electricity?
I did research on this already, however I could not find a satisfying answer. I'm hoping there's an electrician (or someone educated in this topic) who can provide me some hard facts regarding whether or not it's cheaper to leave lights on if returning to the room within 30 minutes. Same thing with leaving your PC on versus shutting if off when not in use. No one gave hard facts (or their source) regarding these issues when answering previously.
According to him, the energy to light the bulb is equivalent to 30 minutes of use. Again, it's more important that I get specifc facts rather than opinions. Please be sure to disclose your source of info. Thanks for any help!
It's always cheaper in electricity to switch them off and on again. The extra cost is that thermal cycling is a major factor in their eventual failure, whether a light bulb or a PC.
There was a Yahoo! answer somewhere a few weeks ago where a computer engineer said that at his company, all the PCs which were left switched on 24/7 worked for years, and the ones which were switched off every night were the ones which developed faults. But there were no figures to go with it, sorry.
