Industrial Energy Savings

One of the major savings if have to be done is on the pumps because 5% of industrial energy is spent on pumps. Total cost of owning a pump amounts to 90% of energy consumption. Through the statistics there is a possibility in saving 20% of energy in all of this.
Different types of Industries have different mechanisms of pumps that vary from size to size. One of the methods by which energy can be saved is by making systems or designing mechanisms in such a way that it has a lower capacity then the total requirements. Second thing is to avoid using excessive margin in capacity to the total head to the pumps. It is good to initiate the size of the pumps and put more emphasis on the cost so that that would save energy in the long run by choosing the most efficient pump type.

It is advisable to use two or three of smaller pumps than using a large pump, which can consume a lot of energy. Secondly, It is good to use those pumps which can operate turbines so that the pressure energy can be recovered otherwise it is totally wasted. To avoid efficiency loss maintains, all pumps and other components have to be maintained to avoid loss of energy efficiency.
Industrialists also need to have systematic planning on how they are going to save on energy. There should be programs that must be conducted in various industries to bring a sense of responsibility so that energy used is utilized in the best interests of the industrialists and the workers working in the industry.

Government is also very particular in the way the energy is being used in number of industries. There were so many clarifications as to the use of energy in different ways. Many at times there is a lot of negligence by the industrialist in using energy and it is just taken for granted. Until recent years there has been awareness even among the industrialists of being aware of machines that are used in the industries. ACEE is one of the groups that are now going to conduct a study on various programs relating to utility of energy sources.

A program has to be followed on the reduction of energy, there should be designing of a pumping system. Evaluation should be made on the performance characteristics. The most efficient pump should be selected and also calculations should be performed for energy savings.
